Working Groups: Health and Social Care

This group meets monthly and aims to represent the views of older people about national health services, primary health care and social care services. Members respond to formal consultations about changes in services, as well as engaging in discussions about policy and practice with representatives of services at regular meetings. The group has built up knowledge of services and uses their own experience of using services and their contacts with service users to voice thier concerns about health and care issues.

Old Spice Drama Group uses performance as an alternative way of expressing older peoples views about issues in health and social care which are important to them. Over several years the group has built up a repertoire of sketches, songs and poems which can be used to exchange information with older peoples groups, and to stimulate discussion at meetings and conferences on health and safety issues. Performances can be used to present the views of users of services about being cared for, and about attitudes to them. Members regularly participate in training programmes for social workers and therapy students at universities.
No charge is made for a performance but donations to cover expenses are welcomed.
